Surf coffee table, natural oil oak
Description
The charm of Aakjær Furniture's Surf coffee table hides in the precision of the craftsmanship and in the many small details that only grow lovelier the longer you look. The oak table is made up of a slim oval top held aloft by slender legs that call to mind a pair of drumsticks. The clean-lined table is so thoroughly refined that it really is like music to the ears, or in this case, to the eyes.
Designed by Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen, the Surf table shines in its versatility too. Its clear Scandinavian shape is just as easy to picture as a coffee table in the living room or a handy side table in the hallway.

Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen (1920–2008) was a Danish carpenter and furniture designer of the old school. He earned his journeyman's certificate from the Danish Technological Institute and was awarded a bronze medal for his craftsmanship. Later, his career took him to Sweden to learn new techniques, and it was there that he picked up intarsia, the old wood inlay technique that became the signature of his work.
Jørgensen founded Møbelintarsia together with his wife in 1948. His furniture came about without drawings of any kind, which is why each piece rests on an instinctive feel for form and function. Today his legacy is carried on by Aakjaer Furniture, founded by his granddaughter Nanna Aakjær.
