Description

Marimekko’s Räsymatto guest towel features Maija Louekari’s attractive pattern in black and white. Räsymatto, Finnish for rag rug, depicts the texture of traditional rag rugs in a delightful, graphic manner. The guest towel is made of soft, 100 % cotton and it measures 30 x 50 cm. Finish the style with other Räsymatto towels.

Siirtolapuutarha and Räsymatto collections have a pleasant feel of nostalgia. The clean, streamlined Oiva ceramic ware, were designed by Sami Ruotsalainen, and the Siirtolapuutarha and Räsymatto patterns by Maija Louekari. They tell stories about country life in an urban environment. The collection’s cups, mugs, bowls, plates and textiles can be combined in various ways and according to mood and occasion – they are perfect for both everyday use and festivities. Räsymatto and Siirtolapuutarha will cheer up your home for years to come.

Maija Louekari

Finnish print designer Maija Louekari (b. 1982) is well-known especially for the textile prints designed for Marimekko. Louekari has studied at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, and in 2003 she won a design competition organized jointly by her university and Marimekko. She has worked as a freelance designer for Marimekko ever since.

Louekari finds inspiration for her patterns from everyday life and the small things, people and sounds that surround her. Also different environments from urban metropolises to Finnish forests contribute to her work. Most of Louekari’s large, uniform patterns have been hand-drawn, and she also likes to experiment with different techniques such as paper cutting. Among her most important works are the Siirtolapuutarha and Räsymatto patterns, originally designed for Marimekko's Oiva tableware range in 2009.
