&Tradition (AndTradition), previously known as Unique Copenhagen, is a Danish company, synonym of Nordic heritage in contemporary design. By changing its name, the company’s goal is to emphasize its way of combining solid handicraft with modern design, and Nordic tradition with high quality. &Tradition works with both emerging and established designers and is renowned for producing some of Verner Panton’s and Arne Jacobsen’s most celebrated designs.

Craft meets art. Function meets form. Material meets potential. This is the Nordic tradition and heritage. &Tradition aims to bridge these values to contemporary design, reshaping, redefining and reinventing materials, techniques and forms. &Tradition utilizes and combines new materials, uncovers new techniques and breaks boundaries in manufacturing.

The Danish company wants to challenge the limits of function, form and materials. The collection of &Tradition not only covers iconic designs and undiscovered gems from the masters of yesterday, but also features new works from the leading designers of today and from the talents of tomorrow, those talents who may create the classics of the future. &Tradition scouts for design talent beyond borders and handpicks production facilities that will provide the finest quality, wherever they are.

&Tradition markets its collection through an international network, but their roots are still Nordic and tradition is still a part of their identity. &Tradition believes in design that is made to last from sustainable production, and respects nature that provides the raw materials.

The best floor lamps of Nordic design

Floor lamps are true eye-catchers, not only because of their light but also their size and height. A long stand gives floor lamps a sculptural silhouette and sometimes even an impression of the light floating in the air. Floor lamps are ideal beside an armchair or sofa, in a lobby or bedroom, or any room that requires a brighter spotlight or soft atmospheric lighting to complement the ceiling light. Our range includes both classic floor lamps from the 1900s and contemporary pieces from Scandinavian quality brands, ranging from low and high floor lamps to torchiere lamps as well as tripod and arch floor lamps.

Floor lamps can provide many types of lighting: a diffused light, direct spotlight or bright general light. If you are looking for a floor lamp with pleasantly soft light, your choice can be, for example, a lamp with an opal glass shade or a Japanese-style paper lantern. If you need a good spotlight for reading or working, an industrial floor lamp with an adjustable shade and arm is an ideal choice. Sometimes a floor lamp even can replace the ceiling light, particularly if the bulb is bright enough to reflect light around from the ceiling and wall. Modern floor lights can also have many useful technical features, such as a dimmer, an integrated LED unit or a timer.

Finnish Design Shop’s selection includes a stylish range of floor lights both from masters of Nordic design, mid-century modernism and designers around the world. We stock floor lights designed by Alvar Aalto for Artek, Poul Henningsen’s and Arne Jacobsen's models by Louis Poulsen and wooden floor lights by the Finnish Secto Design. The colour range includes classic black and white, shiny brass and steel, bright colours and elegant marble. Choose your favourite floor lamp and update your home with a genuine, timeless Scandinavian design!
