Tapio Anttila (b. 1962) is a Finnish interior architect and freelance designer. He graduated from the University of Art and Design of Helsinki in 1994 and runs now his own company, Tapio Anttila Design. His creations include a variety of different works such as entire furniture collections, wall panelling systems and accessories. Tapio Anttila was awarded the Kaj Franck Design Prize in 2018.
Tapio Anttila has a particular interest in Finnish wood and in modern techniques for working on it. One of his most beautiful creations is the Tuohi series, made of Finnish birch bark, which includes trays and a wall element. Since the tones and patterns differ for every tree trunk, each Tuohi item is unique. Moreover the choice of the material is very ecological because normally in the wood processing industry the bark would be wasted. The Tuohi wall element participated in the Straightforward exhibition, an event organized to promote new Finnish design which took place during the New York Design Week in 2010. For the Tuohi trays Tapio Anttila has been awarded the Design Plus Award at the 2008 Ambiente Fair in Frankfurt, Germany. Tapio Anttila has participated in many design and furniture exhibitions and received honor mentions and awards at international level.
