Ishinomaki Laboratory’s Hafu desk was created by designer Keiji Ashizawa out of a need for a compact workspace for his school-age daughters. The wooden desk is designed with simplicity, versatility and longevity in mind: large hooks on each side help keep school bags organized, while drawers beneath the tabletop are accessible from both sides – making it easy to transform Hafu from a desk into a two-person dining table.
Made from Japanese hardwood, each desk features unique, expressive wood grain patterns. The laminated surface adds a protective layer, ensuring durability for everyday use. With its minimalist look, the Hafu desk fits seamlessly into home offices, children’s rooms or dining areas alike.
Keiji Ashizawa (b. 1973) is a Japanese designer based in Tokyo, whose designs are rooted in the attempt of realizing the full potential of each material in relation to the function of both the material and the product. Based on this idea, the simple, refined and light shapes typical of Ashizawa’s designs are formed organically during the design process. A particular influence for Ashizawa’s approach to design comes from his ten years of experience as an architect and a steel fabricator before his career as a designer.
