Lucia Eames Discovery rug
Description
Nanimarquina's Lucia Eames Discovery rug is a bold choice for private homes and public spaces alike. The hand-woven rug is made from 100% hand-spun Afghan wool, combining kilim weaving and embroidery techniques. The result is a pattern that layers itself delicately, as if drawn onto a blank page, with intricate details that seem to float above the surface of the rug.
The Discovery wool rug is based directly on Lucia Eames' hand-drawn sketches, preserving the freedom and spirit of her original lines. The daughter of Charles Eames often found her inspiration in the close observation of the natural world, birds and butterflies among them. Now those same winged creatures find new life in the collaborative rug collection that bears her name, a partnership between nanimarquina, the Eames Office, and Danish studio Form Portfolios.

American artist and designer Lucia Dewey Eames (1930–2014) grew up surrounded by design. Her father, Charles Eames, and stepmother, Ray Eames, helped shape 20th-century design. She also studied at Radcliffe College under Walter Gropius, among others. Eames' own artistic career developed from the 1960s onwards, and from the very beginning, her work was drawn to the natural world, from the sun to butterflies and flowers.
