M-Chair, matt black - Dedar Amuleto 005
Description
GUBI's M-Chair takes us back to a chapter of Marcel Gascoin's career that fewer people know. Long before wood became the material he'd be remembered for, the French designer was busy finding out what metal and tubular steel could do. The M-Chair is a product of those 1930s experiments, made during the years Gascoin worked alongside Jean Prouvé – and yes, you can sense Prouvé's influence in the M-Chair's functional, graphic lines.
What makes the M-Chair so striking is the contrast: generous upholstery appears to hover above legs that taper away to almost nothing. The chair features a bold patterned fabric that plays against lightness beautifully. Because the seat is fully upholstered, the M-Chair also stays comfortable to sit in for a long time. The versatile chair is just as at home around a kitchen table or as an extra seat in the living room as it is in a restaurant, a hotel room, or a meeting room.

Marcel Gascoin (1907–1986) is known as one of the leading designers of post-war France. Driven by his social conscience and aptitude for combining clean-lined aesthetics with rational manufacturing processes, Gascoin played an important role in the reconstruction of the country. During the post-war housing crisis, Gascoin was employed by the French Ministry of Reconstruction and Urbanism to design homes and elegant yet functional furniture, many of which have since become sought-after design classics.
