Cassina’s Console Table, designed by Aldo Bakker, is a minimalist yet striking side table or divider whose design is intended to emphasize the importance of all of its parts: the tabletop and two legs are equally wide, making it catch the eye first and foremost as a unit. The mocca-colored Console Table also explores the concept of a table in its simplest form, blurring the lines of art and furniture.
Aldo Bakker, born 1971, is known for his desire to create pieces whose function is not always immediately clear but require a bit more use or observation. Instead of just being used, he wants his designs to evoke feelings – he often incorporates unusual and surprising yet at the same time vaguely familiar elements to his creations. The autodidact designer is keen to follow his own path.
Many of Aldo Bakker’s designs are unique pieces or manufactured in small editions, but he has also collaborated with the likes of Georg Jensen, Karakter and Swarovski during his career. Bakker’s designs have been acquired by several museums both in his native Netherlands as well as abroad: MoMA in New York, Center Pompidou in Paris, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and Victoria & Albert Museum in London, to name a few.
