No.100 coffee table, natural oil oak
Description
Aakjaer Furniture's No. 100 coffee table is a fine example of clean-lined Danish aesthetics. Danish designer Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen created the table back in the 1960s, yet neither its form nor its materials have aged a day. If anything, the No. 100 table brings a distinctly modern presence to today's interiors.
At first glance, the No. 100 might look pared back, but it actually represents Jørgensen at his most playful and experimental. The rounded oak tabletop sits above an angular shelf made from rattan – the meeting of two very different shapes and materials strikes a balance that's interesting in just the right way. The versatile No. 100 is easy to imagine in living rooms at home as well as in public spaces like restaurants and hotel lobbies.

Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen (1920–2008) was a Danish carpenter and furniture designer of the old school. He earned his journeyman's certificate from the Danish Technological Institute and was awarded a bronze medal for his craftsmanship. Later, his career took him to Sweden to learn new techniques, and it was there that he picked up intarsia, the old wood inlay technique that became the signature of his work.
Jørgensen founded Møbelintarsia together with his wife in 1948. His furniture came about without drawings of any kind, which is why each piece rests on an instinctive feel for form and function. Today his legacy is carried on by Aakjaer Furniture, founded by his granddaughter Nanna Aakjær.
