Knubb tray, ash
Description
Nedre Foss's Knubb tray is both a serving piece and a wooden sculpture, carved from a single piece of solid ash. Its undulating surface invites you to explore the changing forms by hand and follow the natural paths of the wood grain. The design is defined by openings that curve downwards, giving the tray a slightly mysterious expression reminiscent of a face or mask. The holes running through the rounded feet also create a visual connection between the tray and the table beneath it, while lending the structure a sense of lightness. Because of the holes, Knubb works particularly well as a fruit bowl or for storing larger objects.
Designed by Studio Sløyd, Knubb takes its name from the Norwegian word for a short, sturdy piece of wood. The tray is made in Finland.

Studio Sløyd is a Norwegian design studio based in Oslo, founded in 2019 by designers Herman Ødegaard and Mikkel Jøraandstad. Ødegaard and Jøraandstad work across a broad range of design, from self-initiated exhibition projects to collaborations with brands and object design, with a strong focus on materials and experimentation.
Studio Sløyd’s work is inspired by the Scandinavian woodworking tradition known as sløyd, taught in schools and centred on learning through making, exploring materials and respecting their properties.
