Description

It's hard to say whether Aakjaer Furniture's Heart coffee table takes its name from a shape that hints at a heart, or from the fact that it could well be called the heart of the living room. Either way, the slender oak table is a lovely addition beside a sofa, by a window, or in a hallway. Its two levels hold everything from your favourite decorative pieces to books, magazines, and remote controls.

When designing the Heart coffee table, Danish designer Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen looked to intarsia, a marquetry technique known as far back as the Renaissance. Intarsia is usually known for its lavish floral patterns, but Jørgensen went the other way entirely, choosing something far more restrained and letting the natural grain of the wood do the talking.

Jørgen AakjærJørgensen

Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen (1920–2008) was a Danish carpenter and furniture designer of the old school. He earned his journeyman's certificate from the Danish Technological Institute and was awarded a bronze medal for his craftsmanship. Later, his career took him to Sweden to learn new techniques, and it was there that he picked up intarsia, the old wood inlay technique that became the signature of his work.

Jørgensen founded Møbelintarsia together with his wife in 1948. His furniture came about without drawings of any kind, which is why each piece rests on an instinctive feel for form and function. Today his legacy is carried on by Aakjaer Furniture, founded by his granddaughter Nanna Aakjær.

Shipping & Delivery

If all the items in your order are in stock, your order will be dispatched from our warehouse in Finland within two working days. The estimated delivery time is shown on the product pages and at checkout.

The shipping cost is based on the destination, weight, and volume of the shipment and will be calculated automatically. You will see the exact rate, available shipping options and estimated delivery date at checkout once you have filled in your address details.

Please note that your order will be delivered as one full shipment once all the items are in stock.

Orders shipped to Australia are subject to Goods and Services Tax (GST) as following:

For private customers:

  • Orders of AU$1,000 or less (goods value only, excluding shipping and taxes):
    • A 10% GST is included in the prices and paid at checkout.
  • Orders over AU$1,000:
    • GST and any applicable import duties are collected by Australian customs upon arrival and must be paid by the recipient. Since GST is collected by customs, it is deducted from the order total at checkout and shown as a separate line item in the cost breakdown.

Please note that our product pages display prices including 10% GST. As a result, the AU$1,000 threshold effectively applies to orders with a displayed goods value of AU$1,100 or more.
