Description

Mifuko’s Kandili candleholder combines a playful form and beautiful natural material. Designed by Finnish Hanna Anonen, the candleholders are crafted from natural soapstone loved for its smooth, often almost soap-like texture.

Following Mifuko’s philosophy of radical sustainability, the soapstone is sustainably quarried, and each candleholder is signed by the talented artisan who carved it. Due to the natural material, each candleholder is also unique with colour variations in its reddish, marble-like veining. As the pieces are handmade, their size may also vary slightly.

Kandili candleholders can be used for both taper candles and tealights, and they can be stacked to create custom combinations. What does your Kandili arrangement look like?

Hanna Anonen

Hanna Anonen is a Helsinki-based designer with a background in carpentry. She holds a BA in industrial design from the Lahti Institute of Design and an MA in applied arts and design from Aalto University in Helsinki. In 2017 she participated in Finnish Design Shop’s FDS Award design competition with her innovative Cocktail chandelier, ultimately coming third. Later, the design was picked up by the Finnish furniture brand Hakola. In 2021, Design Forum Finland awarded Anonen with the Young Designer of the Year award.

Hanna Anonen’s designs are often characterised by playful, innovative forms and her uninhibited use of colours. She is perhaps best known for her industrial design work, but she is also a talented spatial designer, having created exhibitions and interiors for a variety of clients. In addition to Hakola, Anonen has collaborated with Made By Choice, Iittala and IVANA Helsinki, among others.
