Lucia Eames Butterfly wool rug
Description
Nanimarquina's Lucia Eames Butterfly wool rug is a bold choice for private homes and public spaces alike. The rug is handcrafted from Afghan wool using a combination of knotting and kilim weaving techniques. The interplay of height and density across the surface allows the butterfly to emerge clearly yet softly against the background, adding visual depth and showcasing the careful craftsmanship behind every detail.
The butterfly was a recurring motif in the work of Lucia Eames. The daughter of Charles Eames often found her inspiration in the wonders of nature, butterflies and birds among them. Now those same winged creatures find new life in the rug collection, a collaboration between rug brand nanimarquina, the Eames Office, and Danish studio Form Portfolios.

American artist and designer Lucia Dewey Eames (1930–2014) grew up surrounded by design. Her father, Charles Eames, and stepmother, Ray Eames, helped shape 20th-century design. She also studied at Radcliffe College under Walter Gropius, among others. Eames' own artistic career developed from the 1960s onwards, and from the very beginning, her work was drawn to the natural world, from the sun to butterflies and flowers.
