Ida Ekblad (b. 1980) is a Norwegian artist who works across painting, sculpture, installation and poetry. Born in Oslo, she graduated from the National Academy of Art in Oslo in 2007, having also studied at Central Saint Martins in London. In Ekblad’s work, the most varied sources collide with an effortless ease. She might take her cue from the aesthetics of graffiti or manga, from craft traditions or from internet meme culture. Her paintings are often linked to CoBrA and Abstract Expressionism, but the genre-crossing approach is entirely her own. In 2016, Ekblad founded SCHLOSS, an exhibition space and record label housed in a former Porsche repair workshop in Oslo. Her work has been shown at the Venice Biennale, the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and Kunsthalle Zürich, among others.
