Description

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art’s poster features a dark, ominous wave rising from the sea, painted in 1901 by August Strindberg. Although best known as a writer and playwright, Strindberg also ventured successfully into painting – so successfully, in fact, that Wave V (Bølgen V) became the most expensive Swedish artwork ever sold. The poster was released in connection with Louisiana’s major 2024 exhibition OCEAN, which explored humanity’s complex relationship with the sea – a realm both familiar and profoundly mysterious.

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art’s poster collection includes prints from iconic exhibitions held at the Danish museum over the years. Printed on high-quality paper, posters bring a stylish touch of contemporary art to your walls.

August Strindberg

August Strindberg (1849–1912) is best known as one of the most influential figures in Swedish literature. He was a groundbreaking playwright, novelist and a pioneer of modern theatre who challenged conventions of his time with his well-known works, such as Miss Julie and A Dream Play. Lesser-known but equally thrilling is Strindberg’s work as a visual artist. He painted throughout his life, exploring the raw forces of nature and inner emotional states with powerful intensity. Strindberg's often dark-toned seascapes are considered precursors to expressionism.
