The Romb table lamp by Pholc is dominated by a striking design language that is sure to catch the eye wherever the lamp is placed. However, the luminaire is actually much more detailed than it might look at first glance: its surface is adorned with a delicate, undulating texture that creates an interesting contrast to the preciseness of the lamp’s shape. Designers Mats Broberg and Johan Ridderstråle say they got the idea from corrugated cardboard, which they often use when making architectural models.
In geometry, Romb’s quadrilateral shape is called a rhombus, with all four sides measuring the same. The unusual shape gives Romb a striking presence but is, at the same time, a practical solution: the shape makes the luminaire slimmer, so it can fit on even a narrower shelf or windowsill. The lamp emits an indirect glow both from its open top as well as under its shade, the latter emphasizing the luminaire’s fascinating geometry. The strong shape and delicate texture also create a contrast that makes the Romb table lamp almost sculptural – Romb is guaranteed to add a captivating touch to the décor even when the light is turned off.
