Louisiana Museum of Modern Art
Henri Matisse - Model and Oranges 1953, 124 x 82 cm poster
Description
Louisiana Museum of Modern Art's poster showcases Model and Oranges by French artist Henri Matisse, completed in 1953, just a year before his passing. Originally released in connection with Louisiana’s first Matisse exhibition in 1985, the poster highlights a quieter side of the artist’s practice. Rather than the vivid colour fields often associated with Matisse, Model and Oranges relies on deliberate lines, a pared-down visual language, and a gently restrained palette. In this piece, Matisse explored a more distilled expression, challenging the prevalent colour harmonies of his era. This calm, balanced aesthetic makes the poster an elegant and versatile addition to a range of contemporary interiors.
Louisiana Museum of Modern Art’s poster collection includes prints from iconic exhibitions held at the Danish museum over the years. Printed on high-quality paper, posters bring a stylish touch of contemporary art to your walls.

Henri Matisse (1869–1954) is one of the central figures of twentieth-century art who is remembered for his bold use of colour. Fewer people know that Matisse first studied law, only to discover painting while recovering from surgery in 1890 and swap his law books for art studies in Paris.
In 1905 and 1906, the vivid canvases of Matisse and his colleagues caused a stir in the Paris salons. The group was given the mocking nickname les fauves, meaning the wild beasts. That nickname became the starting point of Fauvism, with Matisse as its leading figure. His work later grew from painting into book illustration, cut-paper works, and eventually whole spaces. The chapel in the small French town of Vence, for one, is his own design down to the architecture, the stained glass, and the interior.
