Muuto's robust Linear Steel garden furniture brings people together

Muuto's Linear Steel series provides a functional setting for summer soirées in the garden.

Linear Steel, the first outdoor furniture collection by the Danish Muuto, was designed by Thomas Bentzen. Instead of individual chairs, the seats are long benches, which create a relaxed and informal atmosphere around the table.

PART OF MUUTO'S designs for 2019, the Linear Steel outdoor collection is a modern version of traditional Nordic oak tables and benches. In place of wood, they are made of thin steel plates supported by rounded legs.

“The Linear Steel series was designed from the idea of presenting durable materials in a sophisticated and understated expression for outdoor use with its form language inspired by the notion of meetings—the meetings of lines, the meetings of shapes and the meetings of materials”, says designer Thomas Bentzen.

Besides the Linear Steel collection, the Danish Thomas Bentzen has designed several chairs and the popular Around table for Muuto.

Bringing people together was a key design principle. People gather around garden tables to enjoy good company, as well as food, drinks and fresh air. Linear Steel was created to provide a pleasant and functional setting for shared meals, pancake parties and soirées in the garden.

“The design is defined by its straight lines for a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic through the details of its folded edges, half-circular intersecting legs and small spacing for easy outflow of water. It is through these subtle elements that the Linear Steel Series translates the values of elegance, longevity and functionality into modern outdoor furniture”, Bentzen describes.

Instead of separate chairs, Bentzen designed benches in two sizes to accompany the tables. The benches bring people together in a natural way: everyone can squeeze up to fit an extra person around the table!

The small gaps allow rainwater to easily pass through the tables and benches.

The steel structure has been hot-dip galvanized to make it weatherproof and durable.

The Linear Steel series has been designed in Denmark and made in Sweden.

The collection includes rectangular tables and benches in two sizes and four beautiful matte tones: black, white, dark green and burnt orange. Their steel structures have been hot-dip galvanized to make them weatherproof and durable.

Linear Steel is representative of Scandinavian design in terms of its aesthetics and manufacturing process: the furniture was designed in Denmark and made in Sweden. Due to their minimalist look and tough structure, the collection's tables and benches are perfect for both private yards and public terraces.
