&Tradition's Pavilion AV19 table, designed by Anderssen & Voll, follows the sleek, graceful design expression of the duo's Pavilion chairs. Equally suitable as a dining table or desk, the Pavilion table features a slender veneered tabletop carried by metal tube legs that curve out at the bottom.
The first item in the Pavilion collection, the Pavilion chair, was designed by Andersen & Voll for mass seating at the Langelinie Pavilion, located on the castle grounds of Copenhagen’s Kastellet fortress. The Langelinie Pavilion has been destroyed and rebuilt several times, and its resilient spirit inspired Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll to create a strong, durable piece of furniture with a tender soul. Steel tube furniture is often based on fixed angles, but Andersen & Voll wanted to give the Pavilion collection a free, flowing form – despite the robust steel frames, the Pavilion collection has an airy and poetic feel.
Anderssen & Voll is a design studio based in Oslo, led by Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll. Founded in 2009, the studio is known for its open, dialog-driven approach to design. Anderssen & Voll’s work spans furniture and lighting as well as textiles, everyday objects and complete interior concepts, and the studio is widely regarded as one of the most internationally respected names in contemporary Norwegian design.
Anderssen & Voll has collaborated with a wide range of clients, including Muuto, &Tradition and Audo Copenhagen. The duo’s work has been recognized with numerous awards, both in Norway and internationally.
The design studio Anderssen & Voll was founded in 2009, when Torbjørn Anderssen (b. 1976) and Espen Voll (b. 1965), the founders of the Oslo-based design company Norway Says, decided to start a new chapter together. Established in 2000, Norway Says played a key role in bringing Norwegian design to international attention.
The duo share a similar background, having both studied at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and the Bergen Academy of Art and Design, where Anderssen now works as a professor. They are equally aligned in their ambitions: Anderssen & Voll strive to design and create products that stand the test of time, both functionally and esthetically.
At the core of Anderssen & Voll’s design philosophy lies a continuous dialog between two strong perspectives. The designers have described their collaboration as a process of challenging one another – disagreements and friction are not obstacles, but an essential part of the creative process. This tension is also reflected in the final result: the design is thoughtful, yet never predictable.
Anderssen & Voll’s portfolio includes furniture, lighting, home accessories and textiles, as well as interior and exhibition projects. The studio has designed interiors for restaurants, trade fair stands and the headquarters of Norwegian brand Nedre Foss, for whom they have also created several products.
Throughout their career, Anderssen & Voll have received numerous international design awards, including the Wallpaper* Design Award, Red Dot Award and iF Design Award, and have been named Designers of the Year in Norway and Scandinavia.
