Description
Innolux’s Otso is a sculptural table lamp created by artist and sculptor Björn Weckström, bringing together the expressive character of Finnish design and the skill of master artisans. Otso’s soft, atmospheric light glows through a glass cube mouth-blown by Finnish master glassblower Kari Alakoski. Shaping a single cube can take several days and the steady hands of multiple professionals – each piece emerging as a one-of-a-kind glass artwork with its own organic textures. The cube’s delicate presence is grounded by a weighty, pillar-like marble base, crafted by Finnish stone specialists.
Only 90 numbered pieces of the Otso lamp have been made, giving it the rarity of a true collector’s item. This celebratory edition pays tribute to Björn Weckström, born in 1935, and to his nine decades of exploring materials with fearless curiosity and blurring the borders between art and design.

Björn Weckström (born 1935) is a Finnish sculptor and jewelry designer who trained as a goldsmith in Helsinki in the 1950s. He is best known as the designer of Lapponia jewelry, with his most famous work being the Planetoid Valleys necklace, worn by Princess Leia in the first Star Wars film in 1977. In 1979, Weckström began working as a lecturer at the University of Pisa and has since lived part-time in Italy.
As a sculptor, Weckström has worked with materials ranging from bronze, marble and glass to acrylic resin. The themes of his sculptures draw on sources such as Greek mythology and the development of humankind. His work has been described as a mystical union of beauty and truth, with enigma at its core. Over the course of his long career, Weckström has received numerous awards, including the Lunning Prize (1968), the Pro Finlandia Medal (1971) and the Kaj Franck Design Prize (2013).
