Description

Designed by Robert Dudley Best in the 1930s, the Bestlite BL2 table lamp was highly influenced by the Bauhaus period and has been in continuous production since its launch. BL2 is a compact and highly functional table lamp – thanks to its rotatable arm, the light can be directed to every corner optimally.

Even the British premier Winston Churchill fell for the Bestlite. In addition to having the table lamp on his desk in Whitehall, he also took Bestlite with him on his countless trips around the world. Loved by architects, designers and design lovers for decades, today Bestlite is a genuine global design icon.

Robert Dudley Best

Robert Dudley Best (1892–1984) was heir to the world’s largest lighting factory, founded in Birmingham in 1840. Despite its proud history, Best felt that the lamp designs produced by the factory were outdated. In 1925, Best visited the International Exhibition of Modern Design in Paris and inspired by what he saw, he began his studies of industrial design in Paris and Düsseldorf. During his studies Best became close friends with Walter Gropius, the founder of the Bauhaus movement. It was during this time that he got inspired by the Bauhaus era and made the first sketches of what would become the iconic Bestlite design.

Bestlite has been in continuous production since 1930. Winston Churchill, the former British prime minister is numbered amongst its many famous users. He actually loved it so much that he took it with him when travelling around the world.

Eighty years on, the Bestlite design stays close to its industrial roots and true to its original design. Bestlite is held in permanent collections at both the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Design Museum in London. Loved by architects, designers and design aficionados through its 80-year history, today, Bestlite enjoys global iconic status.

Shipping & Delivery

If all the items in your order are in stock, your order will be dispatched from our warehouse in Finland within two working days. The estimated delivery time is shown on the product pages and at checkout.

The shipping cost is based on the destination, weight, and volume of the shipment and will be calculated automatically. You will see the exact rate, available shipping options and estimated delivery date at checkout once you have filled in your address details.

Please note that your order will be delivered as one full shipment once all the items are in stock.

Orders shipped to Australia are subject to Goods and Services Tax (GST) as following:

For private customers:

  • Orders of AU$1,000 or less (goods value only, excluding shipping and taxes):
    • A 10% GST is included in the prices and paid at checkout.
  • Orders over AU$1,000:
    • GST and any applicable import duties are collected by Australian customs upon arrival and must be paid by the recipient. Since GST is collected by customs, it is deducted from the order total at checkout and shown as a separate line item in the cost breakdown.

Please note that our product pages display prices including 10% GST. As a result, the AU$1,000 threshold effectively applies to orders with a displayed goods value of AU$1,100 or more.

Delivery terms

Orders are shipped on a DAP (Delivered at Place) basis. This means that any GST, import duties or other charges assessed by Australian customs or the carrier must be paid by the recipient in order to release the shipment.

Please note that the right to return products does not apply to:

  • Custom-made products which are ordered from the manufacturer according to the customer's wishes.
  • Custom-cut items (including fabrics and replacement webbing).

Please note that returns are subject to a restocking fee, which varies depending on your region and the item being returned. The restocking fee will be deducted from the total refund amount.
