The iconic Tynell 9602 floor lamp combines a conical linen shade, rattan-covered stem, and brass accents for a timeless, sculptural look.

Unexpected collaborations often lead to something truly unique and memorable. Such is the case this time, as Danish design brand GUBI and French textile house Garro Éditions collaborate to bring a celebrated Finnish design icon back into the spotlight.

CREATIVE USE OF TEXTILES, beautifully pleated shades, and the shiny glow of polished brass – these are just some of the details that define the work of Finnish lighting designer Paavo Tynell.

Today, one of his most beloved classics, the 9602 floor lamp originally created for Hotel Aulanko in Hämeenlinna, takes on a captivating new look. The luminaire's iconic linen shade has been reimagined in collaboration with Paris-based textile house Garro Éditions, featuring a delicate illustration by British artist Henry Moore, where lively, hand-drawn circus horses appear ready to leap into the limelight.

Henry Moore created thousands of drawings in a variety of styles throughout his career.

Domestic animals were a constant source of inspiration for him.

Horses, along with other familiar animals, were a lifelong source of inspiration for Henry Moore. The illustration now adorning the Tynell 9602 lamp was a spontaneous sketch he made during a circus visit with his daughter.

Decades later, the ink drawing titled Haringey Circus Horses caught the eye of Garro Éditions founder Héloïse Garro when she visited the Henry Moore Foundation archives. Henry Moore created around 8,000 drawings over the course of his life, and Garro reviewed approximately 5,000 of them, choosing six to reissue to textiles.

Garro Éditions was established in 2022 by Héloïse Garro.

Garro was drawn to the bold, flowing black lines that capture perfectly the essence and energy of the moving horses. Paired with the soft folds of the linen shade, the dynamic silhouettes seem to leap from the surface into the room, adding a sense of life and motion to Tynell’s timeless design.

Moore’s illustration is printed on linen fabric that has been woven and printed in France.

This was the first time ever one of Henry Moore’s drawings was brought to life on fabric.

Pleated linen enhances the interplay of light and shadow, even further highlighting Moore’s dynamic lines.

GUBI's and Garro Éditions’ collaboration on the Tynell 9602 floor lamp honors the delicacy of Moore’s original drawing while adding a sculptural dimension that elevates the piece from a functional object into a work of art.

The lively lines of the British artist combined with the clean, geometric form of the Finnish designer create a captivating contrast, transforming the updated 9602 luminaire into an expressive and modern statement piece for any décor. “It feels like uniting two kindred spirits, both creators and artists in their own right,” says Héloïse Garro, referring to the bond between Henry Moore and Paavo Tynell.

The updated Tynell 9602 floor lamp pairs timeless Finnish design with Henry Moore’s expressive illustration, turning a functional classic into a work of art.
