Highlights from the Milan Furniture Fair, part 2
1. Hay – Bernard chair and Silhouette sofa
Hay presented new pieces in the center of Milan at the stunning Palazzo Clerici. The modern furniture fits beautifully with the historical interior, along with small items from the Kitchen Market collection. One of the new designs was a streamlined safari chair, Bernard, by Shane Schneck that will be produced later on. There were numerous different color combinations for the chair on display, but our favorite was the version upholstered with light-colored leather.
The Silhouette sofa, designed by GamFratesi, offers a peaceful nook with its high backrest and works especially well in spaces open to the public. There is a wide array of upholstery options available as well as a model that seats three.
2. Gubi – Paavo Tynell light fixture collection
For Finns, one of the most highly anticipated launches of the Salone del Mobile fair was Gubi’s Paavo Tynell lighting collection, which was presented in the city center at the Palazzo Serbelloni. Gubi has brought a selection of Tynell’s beloved light fixtures back into production, and they are garnering a great deal of interest in Milan, too.
3. Woodnotes – Outdoor My lounge chairs
Woodnotes received well-deserved attention both with its beautiful fair exhibition and My lounge chairs, which are suitable for outdoor conditions. The chairs, designed by Ulla Koskinen, are upholstered with beautifully soft Saimaa fabric that endures wear and tear, moisture and sunlight. The color palette includes four neutral shades.
4. Moroso – Gentry Extra Light sofa
At the fair, we also spotted the Moroso Gentry Extra Light sofa, which is a higher version of the Italian brand’s popular Gentry sofa. The piece, designed by Patricia Urquiola, has clean, minimal lines in a nearly Scandinavian style, and gets an extra dose of lightness from its slim, metal legs.
5. Tero Kuitunen – Mix & Match vases
Tero Kuitunen’s Mix & Match terracotta vases charmed with their sturdy, round shape that looks and feels handmade. Imperfections on the surface invite you to touch them. The Finnish designer shared a fair exhibition space in the Satellite area with Hanna Anonen.
6. Karimoku New Standard – Panorama chairs
Japanese Karimoku New Standard was at the fair for the second time and presented its Panorama chairs, designed by Berlin duo Geckeler Michel. The chairs, crafted of oak, are suitable both for use at home and in restaurants or offices.
7. Normann Copenhagen – Herit chair
For the first time in a decade, Normann Copenhagen launched its new collection outside of the fair in the center of Milan. One of the new releases from the brand was the elegant Herit chair, which combines various eras of Danish design in its form. The chair has finally made it to production, as designer Simon Legald found a small factory in Northern Italy that was able to manufacture the plastic backrest.
8. Beriana – Verdable tables
The minimalist Verdable tables of Berlin-based Beriana were some of the Satellite area’s most interesting products. The leg of the table also serves as a space for indoor plants and flower arrangements, while the mirrored top surface creates the illusion of a green element floating in the air or placed in the middle of a small pond.
