KOKO3 designs stunning new junior suites for Hanaholmen
Hanaholmen is located a few kilometers from downtown Helsinki, near Keilaniemi and Koivusaari.
THE RENOVATED junior suites at Hanaholmen hotel combine bold color surfaces with natural materials. The harmonious blend creates a setting suited both for working and unwinding, while carefully curated details complete the experience.
The new junior suites were designed by Jukka Halminen of KOKO3. Finnish Design Shop’s Trade & Contract Sales supplied some of the lighting and interior pieces.
Svenskt Tenn fabrics from Sweden are used in the interior.
Finnish Design Shop’s Trade & Contract Sales supplied part of the interior products.
The rooms feature a Nordic selection of furniture and lighting from brands including GUBI, Örsjö, Adea, and Thonet. Finnish Design Shop’s Trade & Contract Sales supplied several of the pieces for the rooms, including GUBI’s Tynell floor lamps. The interiors of the new suites were designed by Jukka Halminen, founding partner of the interior architecture studio KOKO3.
“For me, the design process began with the idea of creating a space where quality sets the mood and uniqueness turns it into an experience. Our collaboration with Hanaholmen has continued for a long time and has been an extremely rewarding project for both parties,” says Halminen.
The junior suites also feature unique built-in and freestanding furniture pieces, such as the Paraply side tables designed by Halminen.
The new junior suites are located on the hotel’s first floor.
The rooms offer sea views and measure 35 square meters. The Plissé table lamp is by Örsjö.
The Svenskt Tenn aesthetic long associated with Hanaholmen continues in the rooms through elements such as wall panels, armchairs, and decorative cushions. An important part of the design process – and of maintaining this Svenskt Tenn continuity – has also been preserving elements from the original rooms. One example is Adea’s Lin armchairs, which were reupholstered with Svenskt Tenn’s Anakreon fabric.
Hanaholmen’s collaboration with Lapuan Kankurit is also reflected in the textiles, with Finnish-made pieces from the Kivi and Arvo collections featured in the rooms.
The towels and bathrobes are by Lapuan Kankurit.
The Steamery steamer included in the room amenities removes wrinkles from clothes.
Espressos can be made with the Sjöstrand coffee machine. The Teema mug is by Iittala.
The suites feature unique art lamps.
Each room features original Nordic art and sea views opening onto the archipelago landscape of Espoo. Art is also reflected in the lighting design. The suites feature unique art lamps composed of bronze Unikko sculptures by Pasi Kärkkäinen-Tunkelo, combined with lighting elements by SAAS.
“Our new suites offer a window onto the beautiful Finnish archipelago as well as Nordic design. I believe the rooms will resonate with both our Finnish and international guests,” says Kai Mattsson, hotel director at Hanaholmen.
A glass sauna opened on the shore in 2025.
Finnish Design Shop’s Trade & Contract Sales supplied several of the sauna’s furnishings, including pieces by Vaarnii and HAY.
The new suites complement Hanaholmen’s staycation concept, which also includes a glass sauna with 360-degree views, built in summer 2025.
