Karimoku Case's A-S01 sofa manages to be both sculpturally beautiful and irresistibly inviting – no surprise, as designer Keiji Ashizawa drew inspiration from the best of both Japanese and Scandinavian esthetics. The elegantly pared-down three-seater sofa features a visible oak frame that creates a striking contrast with the generous softness of the backrest and cushions.

The A-S01 sofa is upholstered in a durable wool blend with calm, soothing tones that form an intriguing counterpoint to the lively wood grain visible through the lacquered oak frame.

Keiji Ashizawa

Keiji Ashizawa (b. 1973) is a Japanese designer based in Tokyo, whose designs are rooted in the attempt of realizing the full potential of each material in relation to the function of both the material and the product. Based on this idea, the simple, refined and light shapes typical of Ashizawa’s designs are formed organically during the design process. A particular influence for Ashizawa’s approach to design comes from his ten years of experience as an architect and a steel fabricator before his career as a designer.
