Description

Sammode's M3 table lamp is an updated version of the timeless classic, originally designed by Michel Mortier in 1952. The elegant light consists of a red metal shade and a black steel tube that works as the lamp base. The luminaire is supplied with two hooks that allow the M3 to be transformed from a table lamp to a wall lamp by hanging it on the wall in a suitable location.

A stylish and versatile luminaire is suitable for many spaces and purposes. With the shade facing downwards, M3 works as a direct spotlight or a reading light. When the shade is pointing upwards, the luminaire creates a pleasant indirect light on the walls and ceiling of the room. M3 is made in Châtillon-sur-Saône, France.

Michel Mortier

Michel Mortier (1925 - 2015) was a French designer who showed his talent for a design already at an early age. He graduated from the prestigious École des arts appliqués à l'industrie (School of Industrial Art) in Paris at the age of just 19 and was awarded a silver medal at the prestigious Milan Triennale at the age of 26. He won a gold medal at the same triennial only three years later in 1954. In addition to these recognitions, Mortier has been honoured with the prestigious Prix René Gabriel.

Although Mortier is best known for his lighting, he also made a career in architecture. In the 1970s, the self-taught Mortier designed private homes and completed a degree in architecture. He also taught interior design in several French schools.
