Description

The Maya bowl by Alessi showcases Italian designer Giulio Confalonieri’s modern take on one of the most versatile household essentials: the bowl. Made from steel and coated with multicoloured epoxy resin, the Maya bowl is perfect for storing fruit, adding a decorative touch to your home or serving as a striking centrepiece at the dining table.

The Maya bowl is part of Alessi’s Archivio collection, which offers an impressive overview of the Italian design house’s creations from the 20th and 21st centuries. Featuring works by over a thousand designers, the collection reflects Alessi’s signature blend of experimentation, elegance and functional artistry.

Giulio Confalonieri

Italian Giulio Confalonieri (1926–2008) was a designer and graphic artist whose career combined business with bold visual thinking. After studying economics at Bocconi University, he turned to design working with industry clients and quickly making a name for himself. In the mid-1950s, he teamed up with Ilio Negri, and by 1963 co-founded the influential CNPT studio with Negri, Michele Provinciali and Pino Tovaglia. He also served as art director and contributed to leading many prestigious publications like FMR, Domus and Imago.

Confalonieri’s work earned him top awards, including gold medals at the 11th and 15th Milan Triennale and a Typomundus Diploma of Honour in New York, celebrating his impact on 20th-century graphic art. Today, his legacy lives on in international art museums and in the lasting impact of his powerful visual language.
