Tolix Chair A, known also as the Marais A Chair, is an indisputable icon of French design created by Xavier Pauchard in 1927. The chair is also part of the collections of several museums such as MoMA in New York and Centre Pompidou in Paris.

The trademark Tolix was registered already in 1927, and soon after, the brand's different models started spreading to factories, offices and hospitals, as well as outside on café terraces and in public parks – although this chair is intended for indoor use. By the end of the 1950s, Tolix was producing over 60 000 units annually. Since then, Tolix furniture has become increasingly popular also in private use, nowadays gracing the homes of design enthusiasts around the world. Every Tolix piece is made in France.

Xavier Pauchard

Xavier Pauchard (1880-1948) was a pioneer of galvanization in France. Shortly after World War 1, he was responsible for a flourishing manufacture of galvanized sheet-metal domestic items. In 1927 he registered the brand TOLIX and started manufacturing chairs, armchairs, stools and other metal furniture.

Pauchard designed the classic Tolix chair in 1934. Today we can see Tolix chairs in many famous museums like MoMA in New York and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.  The Tolix chair has become a classic of our time.
