Description

Finarte's Kuhmo rug combines Finnish rag rug traditions with the rich colour palette of India. The rug is crafted using traditional Finnish weaving techniques, but the material comes from surplus fabrics of the Indian textile industry.

As their name kind of suggests, the original idea of Finnish rag rugs was to make use of leftover materials. Traditionally, the rugs were made using upcycled fabrics, or rags, if you will, in an effort to not let anything go to waste. Therefore, the rugs are always unique in their colour and pattern depending on the materials used for each one.

Hand-woven in India, the Kuhmo rugs follow this tradition by having local leftover fabrics as their material: the rugs are made of sari clothing offcuts. Due to both the manufacturing process and the special leftover material, each Kuhmo rug is a unique example of exquisite artisanship, beautifully fusing the traditions of Finland and India. As is common for traditional rag rugs, the Kuhmo rug can also be used upside down.

  • Care instructions Hand wash or horizontal wash in a professional dry cleaner 30 °C (80F). Machine wash or pressure washer is not allowed. Use mild washing liquid. Do not dissolve the rug in the water. When washing, sweep the rug to the direction of the stripes. Rinse the rug carefully. Do not wrap the rug into a roll, and do not fold. Dry the rug in shade. If hang up, align the rug to the direction of the stripes.

Shipping & Delivery

If all the items in your order are in stock, your order will be dispatched from our warehouse in Finland within two working days. The estimated delivery time is shown on the product pages and at checkout.

The shipping cost is based on the destination, weight, and volume of the shipment and will be calculated automatically. You will see the exact rate, available shipping options and estimated delivery date at checkout once you have filled in your address details.

Please note that your order will be delivered as one full shipment once all the items are in stock.

Orders shipped to Australia are subject to Goods and Services Tax (GST) as following:

For private customers:

  • Orders of AU$1,000 or less (goods value only, excluding shipping and taxes):
    • A 10% GST is included in the prices and paid at checkout.
  • Orders over AU$1,000:
    • GST and any applicable import duties are collected by Australian customs upon arrival and must be paid by the recipient. Since GST is collected by customs, it is deducted from the order total at checkout and shown as a separate line item in the cost breakdown.

Please note that our product pages display prices including 10% GST. As a result, the AU$1,000 threshold effectively applies to orders with a displayed goods value of AU$1,100 or more.

Delivery terms
