Take a seat at Klara’s Table, set with Louis Poulsen
Klara Marie Jespersen runs Klara’s Table, a Copenhagen-based culinary studio offering thoughtful cakes and sweet treats for events of all kinds.
“MOST OF MY WORK revolves around cakes, tablescapes and events,” Klara Marie Jespersen says.
“What ties it all together is an interest in aesthetics, not simply as something visual, but in how taste, atmosphere, objects, light and people come together to shape a moment. I think I gravitate towards cakes because they allow me to explore these ideas in a very concentrated form.”
As daylight fades, Louis Poulsen's PH 1/1 Portable lamps take over, adding warmth and atmosphere to the table.
The generous table
“I think a great table makes people want to stay. Of course, I care about the aesthetics, but the most memorable tables are rarely the most elaborate ones. They’re the ones that encourage conversation, curiosity and a sense of ease.”
“I like when a table feels generous rather than performative, when people reach across it, share things, move things around and make themselves at home. To me, that’s when a table has truly succeeded.”
Atmosphere with light
For Klara, lighting should contribute to a feeling of comfort and atmosphere, not simply illuminate a room.
“When it comes to interiors and table styling, what matters most to me is atmosphere,” she explains.
“I think people can feel when something has been chosen with care, and when every element feels like it belongs. Light becomes a very big part of that feeling, as it has an enormous impact on how we experience a space, a moment, and a table.”
“I’m usually drawn to candlelight first, as I prefer a warm, soft glow over harsh overhead lighting when presenting my work. That’s why I really like dimmable, portable lamps: they mimic those qualities and bring that softer quality of light into a flexible format.
I love the PH 1/1 Portable Lamp because it retains the character of the original design while still being so adaptable. There’s something appealing about seeing a classic in a smaller, more flexible format. What I admire most is the ability to revisit a classic, keeping what’s essential, while still allowing it to evolve.”
The PH 1/1 Portable is a rechargeable, cordless version of Poul Henningsen’s iconic lamp design.
Stories of objects
“I often find myself returning to things that have stood the test of time. There’s usually a reason they’ve lasted, and Louis Poulsen is one of those brands for me. Many of the lamps feel deeply familiar: I remember them from my grandparents’ home, and from countless places I’ve loved since.
I have a connection to almost everything I own, and I’m much more interested in pieces that carry a story or a feeling than in following a particular style. I think there’s something quite special about objects that become part of people’s lives that way. They stop being just objects and become part of what home feels like.”
