How about spending your summer enjoying great food and timeless design – all with a view like this?
FINNISH DESIGN SHOP'S showroom & shop in Turku is a destination for design lovers – and this summer, it’s also a haven for foodies. A seasonal café is taking over the space at Aviatie, serving up organic delights that cater to all diets and appetites.
The idea for the café was sparked by customer feedback. “Summer is one of our busiest seasons, with plenty of holidaymakers and tourists stopping by,” says Maija Rasila, Showroom manager. “We wanted to offer our visitors something extra – a chance to enjoy summery treats beyond our regular lunch hours.”
“At Aviatie, many people come to browse, linger, and soak in the inspiration,” Maija adds. “Now, they can also sit back with a cup of coffee and make a day of it. That’s what summer’s all about!”
The summer café is open weekdays from 11 am to 6 pm and Saturdays from 11 am to 3 pm.
And there’s more to savour: on select summer Saturdays, Aviatie will host a rotating lineup of pop-up restaurants, each bringing something new and delicious to the table. With over 100 seats, a cozy terrace, and a full license to serve drinks, there’s room – and something tasty – for everyone.
You can secure your spot at the Saturday pop-ups by booking in advance, but spontaneous visitors are always welcome too, with plenty of walk-in space available.
The first guest of Aviatie’s summer pop-up restaurant season is Sommar bistro & terrace.
Sommar’s menu celebrates the best seasonal ingredients served with a generous dose of laid-back bistro charm.
The restaurant focuses on fresh and locally sourced ingredients, so get ready for delicious dishes straight from the market to your plate!
The summer pop-up season at Aviatie begins on Saturday, 24 May. The first guest is Sommar bistro & terrace, which is a fresh-new restaurant originally opened on the historic Luostarin Välikatu in the heart of old Turku. The kitchen of Sommar is led by Jessica Sorsakari, who might already be familiar to local food lovers as the restaurant manager at KBC Taproom.

“Sommar was born from the desire to bring a relaxed, European-style summer spot to Turku. It's a place that brings together all of the season’s best things: fresh market produce, a historic location, and a laid-back, welcoming atmosphere,” Jessica says of the new restaurant concept.
Sommar serves up the best seasonal ingredients in shareable portions, and the same can be expected at the pop-up restaurant. So grab a friend (or two) and join us at Aviatie on Saturday, 24 May, for a taste of summer!

Known for showing his work only on rare occasions, Melender brings a vibrant selection of pieces to Finnish Design Shop. This is a perfect chance to admire (or even take home!) one of his sought-after works. The exhibition runs through August.
