At home with Nuura: Julie Brandhøj’s restored family home in Denmark
Julie Brandhøj lives with her family in the small town of Hjarbæk.
THIS HOUSE is rooted in history and nature. Julie Brandhøj lives here with her husband, Christian Petri, and their son, Bertram. The house has been in her family for generations and has recently undergone an extensive renovation and extension.
The home is shaped by its original architectural details and its unique location by the water. From restored doors and moldings to the original staircase, Julie and Christian have carefully balanced heritage with modern living.
“We’ve preserved and restored the original details, and even outside, the original cornice continues into the new extension,” Julie explains.
“It was incredibly important for us to protect the soul and history of the house throughout the renovation.”
The color palette and material choices draw on the surrounding landscape and the family’s private beach by the Limfjord.
“We’ve brought the fjord and nature inside,” Julie says. “Our view is constantly changing depending on the weather, and we wanted the lighting and interior to complement that beautifully, whether the water feels blue or gray.”
A row of small Anoli Spot pendant lamps hangs above the countertop.
Julie considers good design and lighting key to the mood of her home.

The Liila Muuse is a delicate lamp that can be installed on either the wall or the ceiling.
Creating calm through design and light
For Julie, both lighting and design play a central role in shaping the atmosphere of the home. The aim has been to balance aesthetics with the practical needs of everyday family life.
“For us, it has been important to create a beautiful synergy between all the rooms, while making sure each space functions in daily life. Our home should feel calm and welcoming,” she says.
“For every room and every corner, we’ve chosen lamps that both complement and complete the interior.”
With ceilings reaching four meters (about 13 feet) in the kitchen, the house is designed to bring people together and offer space and warmth.
The Asteea lamp charms with its airy lightness and nature-inspired aesthetic.
The bell-shaped shade of the Asteea wall lamp resembles delicate wildflowers.
The Rizzatto 301 ceiling lamp provides even, ambient light. It is named after its Italian designer, Paolo Rizzatto.
The wavy backplate of the Liila Muuse lamp echoes the ceiling decorations of old houses.
Nuura’s Liila Outdoor wall lamps are designed specifically for outdoor use.
Nuura lighting throughout the home
Nuura’s lighting has become an integral part of the interior, adding both atmosphere and cohesion. The family has chosen lamps with organic shapes and warm golden details that harmonize naturally with the home’s materials and color palette. Placed throughout the spaces, they enhance the calm, tactile atmosphere and add elegance and softness to the historic surroundings.
“Nuura’s lamps are like jewelry in our home, while each of them also serves an important function. They create atmosphere and connection from room to room,” Julie shares.
