VL Ring Crown 2 wall lamp, opal glass
Description
Louis Poulsen’s VL Ring Crown 2 wall lamp is a masterpiece by Vilhelm Lauritzen from the 1940s. The wall lamp features a brass frame that patinates slowly over time, and three-layered opal glass shades that fill the space with a soft and warm light.
Relaunched in 2019, the Ring Crown family consists of wall lamps, pendants and chandeliers developed by Lauritzen in the 1940s for the Danish Broadcasting House in Copenhagen. Lauritzen aimed at creating a beautiful, easy-maintenance lamp that would provide both, direct downward light and a soft glow to the sides. The clean and refined elegance of the Ring Crown collection charms in any environment, private or public.

Architect and designer Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) was one of the most significant Danish architects of his era and a figurehead of Danish functionalism. Lauritzen’s work is still widely visible in various places around Denmark – the Nørrebro Theater, Copenhagen’s Daells Varehus and the first terminal of Kastrup Airport are great examples of his modernist style. Lauritzen often designed also the furniture and lighting for his buildings, and some of his best-known design pieces are the Radiohuset lamps, designed for Frederiksberg’s radio building and produced by Louis Poulsen. “No life without esthetics” was Lauritzens firmly held belief, and he considered architecture as a form of applied art. Vilhelm Lauritzen Arkitekter, founded by Lauritzen in 1922, is nowadays one of the most valued architectural offices of Denmark.
