Description

&Tradition's Utzon pendant light elegantly plays with rounded lines in a beautifully timeless way. This elegant light fixture looks fresh in both minimalist modern and more maximalist interiors, making it perfect for brightening up dining areas or bedrooms.

The Utzon pendant light was designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, who is best known for the Sydney Opera House. His father worked as a naval architect in Copenhagen and Utzon found a continuing source of inspiration in his engineering drawings. This fascination can also be seen in the smooth, ship-like lines of the Utzon light. Designed in 1947, the elegant pendant features a timeless design that suits any contemporary interior.

Jørn Utzon

Jørn Utzon (1918-2008) was a Danish architect, best known for designing the Sydney Opera House in Australia. Utzon attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from where he gratuated in 1942. During the following years he worked also at Alvar Aalto's office, learning more about functionalism and esthetics. Utzon won the architecture competition for Sydney Opera House in 1957.

Utzon often referred to the Swedish architect Erik Gunnar Asplund along with Alvar Aalto and Frank Lloyd Wright as his architectural kin. After traveling through Europe, the United States and Mexico, Utzon established his own practice in Copenhagen, working mainly as an architect throughout the world. In 2003, he received the Pritzker Prize, architecture's highest honor.
