Description

The Kettle teapot, designed by Norm Architects for Audo Copenhagen, combines the tradition of tea with modern Scandinavian design. As the teapot is made of smooth transparent glass, it stimulates the sense of both sight and touch. The tea filter, placed in the centre of the pot, is easy to lift by pulling the attached silicon string once the tea has infused and is ready to be served.

Norm Architects

Norm Architects is a Copenhagen-based architecture and design studio founded in 2008, known for its holistic, human-centred approach to design. The studio works across architecture, interior design, product design and creative conceptualisation.

Norm Architects aims to enrich the human experience within the built environment. The practice has extensive international experience in designing everything from residential buildings and hotels to workspaces and products.

Norm Architects – Nordic minimalism and spatial wellbeing

Norm Architects is a Danish design studio originally founded by two architects, Kasper Rønn and Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen. Both Rønn and Bjerre-Poulsen graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. As modernists, they believe that design should focus on real need rather than creating new products without any deeper meaning.

This thinking shows in Norm Architects’ architecture as well as in their interior and product design – the studio also has a strong command of natural materials and a knack for emphasising details in just the right way.

Minimalism that speaks to the senses

Norm Architects seeks to ”re-sensualise” space – to bring feel, warmth and humanity to architecture and objects. Their work draws on Nordic minimalism, but a pared-back design language is not an end in itself. Every project is a search for the essential: the moment when nothing more needs to be added or taken away.

Alongside Nordic design, Norm Architects’ work also borrows from Japanese design and old craft traditions.

From architecture to product design

Norm Architects’ projects range from private homes and hotels to furniture and lighting. The studio has collaborated with several international brands and designed everything from furniture and storage systems to complete interior concepts.

Over the years, Norm Architects has been honoured with numerous international awards. The studio has won the Danish Design Award’s Designer of the Year title (in 2014 and 2016), the Red Dot Award and the Good Design Award, among others. It has also been named several times in the AD100 lists of the world’s most significant architecture and design studios.

This is a great steeping kettle. I purchased it as a gift for my partner, who regularly brews herbal teas. The glass is strong, and surprisingly thin. It’s much thinner than I anticipated but so far that hasn’t been an issue. It actually does insulate better than I imagined. She’d been using a mason jar with a strainer lid previously and this kettle does an immensely better job at keeping the tea warm. The rubber stopper on the spout keeps all the good aromas and heat in as well. The design is beautiful no doubt, which is part of the main reason I was drawn to it. The strainer basket lets a little debris through during steeping. Maybe there’s a better design in there, but it does do the job without being a major detractor. Perhaps a fine wire steeping basket would be better. All of that said, this kettle is far superior to other steeping kettles I’ve seen around, most of which seem to be made by the same few Chinese manufacturers and a bunch of brands drop shop them. The magnetic mechanisms are pure junk. This is an all around great kettle with a little room for improvement. Worth the cost in my opinion.
