Varier’s Variable Monochrome kneeling chair is designed to bring movement and ergonomic comfort to your workspace – along with a bold splash of colour. The forward-tilting seat encourages a naturally upright posture, helping to relieve pressure on the lower back and ease tension in the neck and shoulders. Upholstered in a recycled polyester fabric that matches the frame, the Variable Monochrome features curved wooden runners that allow gentle rocking and movement while seated.

Designed by Peter Opsvik, the Variable is the world’s first kneeling chair and a true pioneer in ergonomic seating. First introduced at the Copenhagen Furniture Fair in 1979, it remains one of Varier’s most popular products to this day. The colourful Variable Monochrome joined the collection in 2024. Lightweight, agile and easy to move around, the chair is ideal for both home and office use.

Peter Opsvik

Peter Opsvik (b. 1939) is a Norwegian designer, artist and musician, best known for his seating solutions that promote ergonomics and movement. His work focuses on supporting the body’s natural motion – challenging conventional static sitting and encouraging dynamic postures and active sitting. Among his most iconic creations are the Variable kneeling chair, designed in 1979, and other celebrated designs in collaboration with Varier.

Shipping & Delivery

If all the items in your order are in stock, your order will be dispatched from our warehouse in Finland within two working days. The estimated delivery time is shown on the product pages and at checkout.

We offer free shipping on small items for orders over
150 €.

For large items, free shipping applies to orders over 3000 €.

“Small item” refers to parcels under 80 cm in length or weighing less than 25 kg. Larger or heavier shipments are classified as “Large item deliveries” (see below).

Please note that the free shipping thresholds stated above may not apply in certain cases. In such situations, any applicable shipping fees will be clearly displayed at checkout.

Large item delivery charge range from 29 € to 149 €  and is automatically calculated and displayed on the product page and at checkout. The exact cost is confirmed once your delivery address has been entered.

Large item delivery charges apply to any single parcel with a side longer than 80 cm or weighing more than 25 kg.

Please note that exceptions to these fees may apply to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of large or delicate items. In such cases, the final delivery cost will be displayed at checkout.
