Lucia Eames Sunbirds rug, charcoal
Description
Nanimarquina's Lucia Eames Sunbirds rug is a bold choice with personality to spare, equally striking in a private home or a public space. The rug is hand-woven from natural jute fiber, a material that is durable, easy to care for, biodegradable, and kind to the environment. The bird pattern unfolds from the center outward with an almost calligraphic quality, and the woven fibers create subtle tonal variations across the surface. The Sunbirds rug brings a sun-soaked warmth and natural texture to any interior.
Birds were a recurring motif in the work of Lucia Eames, daughter of Charles Eames, who often found her inspiration in the close observation of the natural world — birds and butterflies among them. Now those same winged creatures find new life in the collaborative collection that bears her name, a partnership between rug brand nanimarquina, the Eames Office, and Danish studio Form Portfolios.

American artist and designer Lucia Dewey Eames (1930–2014) grew up surrounded by design. Her father, Charles Eames, and stepmother, Ray Eames, helped shape 20th-century design. She also studied at Radcliffe College under Walter Gropius, among others. Eames' own artistic career developed from the 1960s onwards, and from the very beginning, her work was drawn to the natural world, from the sun to butterflies and flowers.
