GUBI’s Tropique outdoor chair exudes an air of glamour and luxury, particularly that of times past. Designed by Mathieu Matégot in 1951, the patio chair comprises a slender, playfully curved metal frame and high-quality indoor-outdoor upholstery. As a slight deviation from Matégot’s original design, the upholstery is replaceable, further extending the chair’s lifecycle.

The Tropique outdoor collection was designed in the 1950s and relaunched by GUBI in 2022 as part of the GUBI goes al fresco range. Although Tropique was out of production for several decades, it remains one of the few collections that most shaped Matégot’s early career with its decadent aesthetic inspired by life in mid-20th century Côte d’Azur – the furniture series makes one think of luxury hotels, champagne towers and indescribably beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea.
