Ferm Living's Aukko dining table provides a strikingly monolithic setting for dining, socialising or meetings. Made of oiled Douglas fir, the round tabletop is supported by a sculptural base constructed from wide wooden panels, whose openings give the table its name – "aukko" is Finnish for "opening" – as well as a distinctive, architectural character. The bold grain patterns of the Douglas fir and small brass details functioning as footrests complete the overall look.
The design of the Aukko table was inspired by Can Lis, the private residence of Danish architect Jørn Utzon in Mallorca, sometimes referred to as one of the finest private homes of the 20th century. The building's unique blend of natural elements and geometric forms is echoed in the dining table's design, developed in collaboration with the Utzon Center, which carries on the architect's legacy.
