Vitra’s Eames Lounge Chair, designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956, is a modern interpretation of a traditional English club chair. A perfect companion to the Lounge Chair is the Lounge Ottoman, which shares the same flowing design as the iconic seat.
The Eameses set out to create a generous lounge chair that would combine ergonomics with high-quality materials and craftsmanship. It took several years to develop a design that would stand apart from a conventional club chair through its lighter, more refined form and exceptional comfort. The Eames Lounge Chair is available in two sizes: the original, classic dimensions and a newer, larger version – this model is the updated, larger size.
The chair and footstool we all have come to know and love have cushions upholstered with leather, but when they were first introduced in the 1950s, they were briefly available as fabric-upholstered versions. In 2023, Vitra relaunched the Eames Lounge Chair with a fabric cover, this time complete with a lively Nubia bouclé textile. The chestnut veneer parts are finished with a water-based lacquer, and the base is made of polished aluminium.
