Marimekko’s Raita-Armi is a nifty little jar and a collectible art piece in one. The adorable little container is part of the Marikyläläiset series, designed by Jenni Tuominen, that was launched in 2021 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Marimekko.
The name Raita-Armi is an homage to the founder of Marimekko, Armi Ratia – Raita, or “stripe” in English, is not only a reference to the figurine’s decoration but also an anagram of Ratia’s surname! Devoted fans of the brand may recognize the form of the lower part: each character in the Marikyläläiset series is based on a familiar piece from the Oiva tableware collection designed by Sami Ruotsalainen. Marikyläläiset, “Mari villagers”, are produced as a small-scale edition and painted partly by hand, making each ceramic figurine a unique piece of art.
