Duo Rae rug, beige
Description
VM Carpet's Rae rug features a delightfully varied pattern inspired by the fickleness of springtime weather: sudden outbursts of hail, blowing winds, raindrops dripping down a window – the name Rae actually translates to “hailstone”. Woven with tweed yarn, the rug is perfect for families with kids or pets, as the textured, multicoloured surface easily hides small stains and dirt. The fun, hand-knotted tassels add a playful finishing touch to the design.
The Rae rug is part of VM Carpet's Duo collection, designed by Finnish textile artist Elina Helenius. The collection is characterised by timeless design, sustainability and multifunctionality, to which the collection’s name also refers: the easy-care rugs are double-sided, meaning they can be used both ways. The Duo rugs are made at VM Carpet's own weaving mill in the village of Karvala in Finland.

Elina Helenius (b. 1963) is a Finnish textile designer with a focus on surface, colour and pattern design. She graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki, Department of Textiles, in 1988. Helenius has worked widely in product design and product development, bringing Finnish design expertise to both domestic and international clients. Her collaborations include brands such as Aarikka, Adea, Doctor Design, Marimekko, Showroom Finland, and Lapuan Kankurit. Helenius has received recognition in several design competitions, and her work is featured in the collections of the Helsinki Design Museum, the Kyoto Textile Resource Center, and the Röhsska Museum of Fashion, Design and Decorative Arts in Gothenburg, Sweden.
