Description

The String side panel is one of the fundamental components of String Furniture’s popular shelving system. String side panels are mounted on the wall using screws, and they can be combined with the shelves and other elements of the String System in numerous different ways. The lightweight yet durable side panels are made of steel.

String System is an iconic modular shelving system that was originally designed by Swedish architect Nils Strinning back in 1949. The signature ladder-like side panels can be combined with different shelves, magazine racks, work desks, folding tables, chests and cabinets, allowing you to create a customised system that best suits your needs. The timeless and minimalist design of the String System makes it an ideal choice for modern homes and offices, and the versatile shelving system can be endlessly expanded both vertically and horizontally. String Furniture remains dedicated to designing and manufacturing its products in Sweden.

Nils Strinning

Swedish architect Nils Strinning (1917–2006) was one of the designers who laid the foundation for what is now widely recognised as Scandinavian style. He rose to international fame in the 1940s with his design of the iconic String shelving system.

String was launched in 1949 as part of a design competition organised by the Swedish publishing house Bonnier, and it quickly became a classic of modern, functional design. Strinning’s work has received numerous accolades, including a gold medal at the Milan Triennale, and the String shelving system remains one of Sweden’s most iconic design exports.
