Vitra unveils an updated Eames collection

The Eames Lounge Chair is finished in beautifully textured Nubia bouclé fabric in the shade 04 bamboo/terra. The chestnut wood parts are coated with a water-based lacquer.

In September 2025, Vitra unveiled a comprehensive update to its Eames collection. The refresh of Charles and Ray Eames’s classics introduces more sustainable materials, new finishes, and a selection of authentic colors.
Edit: Design Stories

DESIGN DUO Charles and Ray Eames were always driven by a desire to solve both old and new problems. They experimented with innovative structures, materials, forms, and methods, introducing countless groundbreaking ideas guided by their strong belief in uniting form and function.

The collaboration between the American designers Charles and Ray Eames and the Swiss company Vitra began in the early 1950s. Vitra started producing Eames furniture in 1957, marking the beginning of its journey as a furniture manufacturer. The Eameses’ design philosophy continues to shape Vitra’s values, direction, and ambitions to this day. When making major design decisions, one question is still asked at Vitra: What would Charles and Ray say?

The Occasional Table LTR is a versatile side table designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1950. Its tabletop is made of linoleum.

Vitra’s Eames House Bird is an expressive wooden figure. The brown version is made of walnut, and the black one of ash.

In the updated version of the Hang it all coat rack, only wood grown in Europe is used, and the surfaces are finished with a water-based lacquer.

Around 60% of Vitra’s carbon footprint comes from sourcing, processing, and using materials. The company is committed to using the most sustainable and environmentally friendly materials available, such as V-Foam, the world’s first re-meltable polyurethane foam.

This drive to reduce the environmental impact of production has now also led to the redesign of some of the Eames furniture pieces made of wood.

La Fonda -tuolinjalka

The Eameses developed the La Fonda chair base in 1961 for the La Fonda Del Sol restaurant in New York. The restaurant’s interior was designed by their friend Alexander Girard.

Vitra Soft Pad Chair EA 231

The Soft Pad Chair EA 231 features a frame painted in chalk white.

Measuring an impressive 70 cm in length, the Eames House Whale is made of hand-painted ash with a black-and-white surface finished with a water-based lacquer.

Vitra is increasing the use of European wood in its product range and introducing new species grown in Europe, such as cherry, chestnut, and walnut. These new options complement the European woods already used in the collection, including oak and ash.

The color palette of the Eames collection has also been refreshed, drawing inspiration from the original neutral and multicolored Eames tones. The new colors are both authentic and contemporary.
