Lasting beauty for home and holiday gifting – Showroom’s seasonal favorites

During the holiday season, an abundance of displays is part of the charm. Vitra’s LTR Occasional table in classic red works beautifully as an accent color.

At Finnish Design Shop’s showroom & shop in Turku, the holiday spirit is enjoyed in the midst of beautiful design. Between browsing the shelves, visitors can discover ideas for decorating their home, filling Santa’s sack and setting the table for the holidays.

WHEN THE DARKNESS OF EARLY WINTER creeps in, it feels natural to lean into the mood and start preparing for the season’s biggest celebration. Finnish Design Shop’s showroom team has been building up the holiday mood calmly and little by little, and now everything is ready: a Christmas tree anchors the downstairs space, candles and festive flowers set the scene, and the shelves and tables are filled with timeless classics and the most dazzling new arrivals – all perfect for gifting.

For this story, the showroom team gathered their favorite gift ideas – after all, who would know the products better than the people who work with them every day. If choosing the right present feels tricky, the suggestions below are a safe bet for slipping under the tree.

The softly rounded silhouettes of Kartell’s Aaland sofas are a feast for the eyes. Also lighting can be layered and combined in unexpected ways.

Archipelago atmosphere, Italian style

Even though the showroom’s exhibition will not change again until late winter, a few settings received a festive refresh for the season. The Italian brand Kartell is best known for plastic classics such as the Componibili series, but its range reaches far beyond that – including the upholstered seating of the Aaland collection.

The designer of Aaland, Patricia Urquiola, created the pieces with a seascape in mind. The sofas and lounge chairs are like small islands nestled close to one another. Their soft, organic shapes flow together and form inviting clusters that encourage you to sink in and unwind.

The modular STOFF Nagel candleholder can be rebuilt into a new sculptural shape every year.

One piece at a time

The first gift tip comes from Showroom Sales Specialist Roosa Ranki:

“If you are looking for a holiday present with timeless appeal, the STOFF Nagel candleholder is a perfect choice. Its modular structure makes it a gift that grows with its recipient. You can keep adding new elements and create ever more impressive compositions.

For homes with children or pets, STOFF’s own LED candles offer a safe alternative that brings in the glow without an open flame. Beautiful design and a calm festive mood go hand in hand that way.

At home, I have chosen rose-gold candleholders that add a gentle shimmer to my holiday decor. The candleholder is a decorative element that always feels considered and current.”

Tekla’s lambswool blanket and other earthy-toned textiles make the living area feel even softer and more inviting.

Woolly warmth for the chilly ones

Showroom Manager Maija Rasila loves to give soft and luxurious home textiles as gifts.

“A high-quality wool blanket is a true Christmas classic – who wouldn’t appreciate a little extra warmth on winter evenings?

The throw made from a blend of recycled and new wool by Tekla is delightful both wrapped as a present and draped in one’s own festive home. My personal favorite is the on-trend brown striped version, but the collection also caters to those who love winter whites, classic green or crisp black-and-white.”

The plush, dark green towels by Baina suit the mood of a festive home perfectly.

Refined pampering

Showroom Sales Specialist Mirjami Hukkanen treats her loved ones to personal everyday indulgence:

“The soft and luxurious towels by Baina bring a spa-like feeling into daily life. Frama’s hand cream and hand soap complete the set with their refined scent and natural ingredients.

This stylish and practical gift suits both dedicated design lovers and anyone who appreciates small luxuries in everyday life.”

A refined design lamp such as Flos’s Taccia is not only a light source but also a striking art object. The Lucia candleholder is by Artek.

Light and delight

In the dark season, you can never have too many lamps – which is why a classic light fixture is my own gift tip. Suitable options are easy to find for all ages and needs: a proper desk lamp for a schoolkid, a reading light by the armchair for an elderly relative, a portable lamp for atmosphere lovers or a beautiful chandelier above the dining table for the whole family.

This kind of gift will be cherished for a long time. A well-made lamp can last for decades and can be repaired when needed. A more valuable piece also works wonderfully as a joint present when several gift-givers decide to chip in together.

Udumbara’s terracotta pots and HAY’s Barro bowls come to life when paired with holiday flowers and softly glowing white candles.

Showroom specials

This Christmas, Finnish Design Shop’s showroom & shop once again offers a selection that goes beyond what is available online, including a variety of small treats. New to the range this year are the beautiful terracotta pots by Udumbara, among others.

The handmade terracotta pots pair beautifully with the forms of HAY’s Barro collection. Barro pieces echo the same rounded shapes and natural terracotta hues. White Christmas flowers glow especially beautifully against the warm red clay.

The delicately sculpted Hekate and Hestia candles by Blue Harmony, cast from natural materials, are also available only at the showroom. A little guess: they might well be this year’s surprise bestseller. Then again, the real question is whether anyone will have the heart to actually burn candles that pretty.

Interior designer Riikka Soini-Ferraguto, who works at Finnish Design Shop’s showroom, values functional and beautiful design and strives to make long-lasting choices. Natural materials and vintage finds bring softness and character to the space.
