ORIGINATING FROM BARCELONA, Nanimarquina is celebrated for its stunning handwoven rugs, which range in style from nature-inspired minimalism to vibrant, eclectic designs bursting with color.

At Finnish Design Shop, you’ll now find a curated selection of rugs from this award-winning Spanish brand, where modern design meets centuries-old craftsmanship.

Nani Marquina founded her namesake company in 1987. The harmonious Shade rugs were designed by Begüm Cana Özgür.

The graphic Tres rug is a result of the collaboration between Nani Marquina and Elisa Padrón.

The Flora Bloom rug draws inspiration from painter Santi Moix’s floral artworks.

Designed by Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien, the playful Rabari rug is crafted using the soumak technique, blending embroidery and weaving.

Nanimarquina was founded by Nani Marquina, who grew up surrounded by design. Her father, Rafael Marquina, was a pioneer of industrial design in Spain and the creator of the iconic Marquina oil bottle. Nani Marquina began her career in an architectural firm but soon discovered her true passion in textiles. She crafted her first rugs in the early 1980s and established her own company in 1987.

The post-Franco era in Spain was a time of creative exploration, where boundaries were pushed and glass ceilings shattered. As an independent female entrepreneur, Nani Marquina was a fresh face in the male-dominated design world, and her contemporary rugs brought something entirely new to the scene.

Ilse Crawford’s Wellbeing tapestry is woven with cotton, jute, wool, seagrass, and wood. The same collection also includes a cozy wool rug.

Inga Sempé’s Colorado rug combines traditional chobi and kilim techniques, creating a playful texture with two different heights.

Designed by Ronan Bouroullec, the two-toned Doblecara rugs are also two-sided.

Begüm Cana Özgür’s Haze rug captures the moment when fog wraps the landscape in its embrace.

Nanimarquina collaborates with a prestigious lineup of internationally renowned designers, including Britain’s Ilse Crawford, and French designers Ronan Bouroullec and Inga Sempé.

The widely admired Shade and Haze rugs by Begüm Cana Özgür draw inspiration from the rich colors of nature and the traditions of Turkish weaving.

The collection also features vibrant works by Spanish designer Jaime Hayón, known for his dynamic patterns and bold color combinations.

Nanimarquina rugs are handcrafted in India, Pakistan, and Nepal. The Tres Vegetal rug is woven using the Indian dhurrie technique with wool, felted wool, and jute.

Here, the Silhouette rug by Jaime Hayón is being crafted, with the outdoor version made from recycled PET plastic.

The tufted Troupe wool rug also showcases Hayón’s delightfully vibrant style.

Shade rugs are available as wool rugs for indoor use and plastic rugs suitable for outdoor spaces.

Nanimarquina’s rugs are handcrafted in India, Pakistan, and Nepal, where the brand works closely with skilled artisans who masterfully employ various weaving and knotting techniques. From tufting to knotting and weaving, every step is done by hand. Alongside wool, cotton, and other natural materials, rugs are also crafted from recycled plastic, making them ideal for outdoor use.

Since 2002, Nanimarquina has been supporting the Care & Fair organization, which fights against child labor and supports the well-being of rug weavers and their families by improving access to education and healthcare.
