International community for friends of pre-loved design – Happy 2nd birthday Franckly!

Jonathan from Sweden sent Franckly this feedback: “I've been searching for these tumblers for years! So happy to have found them. They were perfectly packed, very carefully. A personal note, wishing that these glasses would bring me joy was such a nice trait.”

For two years now, Franckly has been providing its customers with stunning pre-owned design treasures. Now, it’s time to celebrate and wrap the past year in a pretty package. Read about what’s new with Franckly and check out the recipe for a vegan birthday cake at the end of the article!

There are already 10,000 design lovers in the community

Franckly is a marketplace for pre-owned design, launched in 2019 by Finnish Design Shop, and during the past year, it has attracted visitors from as many as 191 different countries. Most of the visitors are from Finland, but United Kingdom, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands are also in the TOP 5. In two years, Franckly has managed to get nearly 10,000 registered vintage and design lovers to join its design community.

When you are shopping at Franckly, you need to be quick, since only individual products are usually put on sale. For instance, some of the less-common Moomin mugs have sold like hotcakes this year: the Drawing Moomin mug changed hands in less than six minutes, and the 2004 Christmas mug was sold in fifteen minutes. Furniture and lamps designed by Alvar Aalto are also highly popular. To give an illuminating example, once a A330S pendant lamp, also known as Golden Bell, found a new home in a little over ten minutes.

Monique's feedback from the Netherlands: “Very helpful and kind seller, items as described, shipped them quickly, packed the parcel very well, what more is there to want? 5 star-seller!”

It pays off to follow

Franckly’s popular Follow service makes it easy to track the most coveted design treasures and helps the vendors see which products are in demand. Clicking the Follow sign pays off: when a product is put on sale on Franckly, the followers get an email and are the first to know about it.

The products featured in last year’s report, such as the Wishbone chairs by Carl Hansen & Søn and beautiful lamps manufactured by Artek, are still among the most followed products. Franckly’s team has also noted the increase in the demand of String System furniture and Ligne Roset’s Togo collection – not to mention the classics, such as the Bonanza armchair designed by Esko Pajamies or Oiva Toikka’s iconic glass birds.

This year, the items put on sale also included a few less-familiar gems, such as the sympathetic Kissa 4807 glass figurine by Kumela and the Zdown folding chair by Erik Magnussen.

Jaana's feedback from Finland: “My first purchase at Franckly, and they exceeded my expectations. The item is actually in better shape than described, so I am very happy about it, thank you!”

Also local pickups

Over the past year, Franckly has sold and delivered both small and large products. One of the heaviest was Ferm Living’s Mineral coffee table (whopping 118 kg), whereas the title of the lightest product went to Kay Bojesen’s little wooden monkey (mere 13.61 g).

In addition to traditional delivery methods, Franckly provides its customers with the option of local pickup, which also reduces the emissions caused by deliveries. This way, for instance the following items changed hands: Eero Aarnio’s Bubble Chair in Estonia, Zanotta’s Leonardo table in Italy and Artek’s “Tank” armchair, upholstered with zebra-patterned fabric, in Finland.

Campaign: Franckly’s Secret Sale

Franckly is celebrating its 2nd birthday this month, and in honour of that, they offer a 20% discount on selected design products. Pick the treasures you want into the shopping cart and use the code FRANCKLYTREATS20 at Franckly's checkout. The campaign is valid until 30th August 2021.

What would a birthday be without any treats? You can celebrate the birthday by baking a vegan cake decorated with fresh berries or fruits.

Franckly’s vegan birthday cake

Ingredients:
250 g vegan margarine
250 g cane sugar
1 tsp vanilla paste
1 lemon (zest)
300 g soy yogurt
275 ml soy drink
3 tbsp baking soda
1.5 tbsp vinegar
400 g wheat flour

Filling:
250 g vegan mascarpone
200 ml whipping cream made of oats
100 ml powdered sugar

In addition, strawberry or raspberry jam as well as berries for decorating the cake.

Do as follows:
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees and grease two springform pans of the same size (diameter about 24 cm). Whisk the margarine, sugar and vanilla paste in a bowl until foamy. Add the grated lemon zest to the bowl.

Mix the soy drink and soy yogurt in a separate bowl. Then, add the vinegar and set the bowl aside for a moment. The batter may coagulate, but that is part of the process.

Mix the flour and baking soda gently with the margarine mixture, and then add the soy drink mixture while stirring slowly. Mix the batter thoroughly until smooth. Pour the batter evenly into both pans and bake in the middle of the oven for 25–30 at 200 degrees. You can stick the cake layers with, e.g., a wooden toothpick to see if they are done. Let the layers cool down properly before decorating the cake.

Whip the oat cream into a foam and add the mascarpone and powdered sugar. Cover one of the cake layers with jam and then pipe the oat cream and mascarpone mixture over the jam. Add the other layer onto the cake and ice the cake with the rest of the oat cream mixture. Decorate the cake with berries or fruits and enjoy it in the best company.
