Avotakka’s storage solution picks: “It’s nice to start your free time by packing the tools away”
1. Toolbox for the office
“I alternate between working from the office, my home and cabin, so a mobile storage solution would come in handy. Vitra’s Locker Box is a good candidate. The design is warm and nostalgic, reminding me of an old toolbox. The box allows you to easily move your laptop and any other equipment out of sight after your working day is done, which clearly marks the beginning of your own free time. Out of the four color options, I like Sea Blue the most.
2. Magazine storage
“I read a lot of magazines, and it would be nice to have a place to store them once I put them down. The Helsinki paper bag holder by Everyday Design could function nicely as a magazine rack. You can easily switch out the bag fitted on the holder, which is nice, since I like variation. I also still haven’t found a good laundry basket for the cabin, and the Helsinki holder would be an easy solution to that problem as well.”

3. Light storage space
“Our cabin is fairly new, so we haven’t yet bought ourselves a bookshelf, since I’ve wanted to keep the beautiful log walls visible and maintain a feeling of openness in the space. But now, the books are stacking up, so we could use an elegant, lightweight shelf. Artek’s classic Aalto wall shelf would be perfect for this purpose. I could also place a plant and a candlestick on the shelf to maintain an impression of lightness.”

4. For keys and small treasures
“At the cabin, I often visit the outdoor storage and outbuilding, which are both locked. For this reason, it would be nice to be able to find all the keys easily in one place. Normann Copenhagen’s Ring Box seems to be just the right size, and the ring design makes it easy to open – just the right kind of storage box for keys, for example.”

5. Keep small items out of sight
“I wonder if other people also notice that small items just keep appearing in their homes and need to be stored somewhere? In order to maintain a soothing atmosphere at the cabin, I would like to keep the surfaces tidy and uncluttered. I don’t need a large chest of drawers, so at 60 centimeters tall, Kartell’s Componibili storage unit would be the perfect solution for this purpose. It doesn’t take up much space and can be easily moved from one place to another. Out of the color options, I prefer the creamy white, but there are also many other lovely shades available.”

6. Do laundry in style
“When you’re taking care of different chores around the cabin, you’re constantly generating laundry that has to be dried somewhere. Skagerak’s Dryp drying rack can be placed on the terrace in the summer, and even during the winter, it’s compact enough for the bathroom. I love the rack’s beautiful oak surface and rounded corners.”
