Venla napkin, 46 x 46 cm, melange olive - white
Description
Lapuan Kankurit’s Venla cloth napkin is a tribute to Finnish craftsmanship and literary traditions. Designed by Elina Helenius, this linen napkin is woven from melange yarns, where the interplay of two tones creates a vibrant, nuanced surface. The pattern is accentuated by a subtle contrast stripe made from a thicker yarn, adding a refined sense of rhythm and texture.
The Venla collection draws inspiration from the rough linen shirts featured in Aleksis Kivi’s book Seven Brothers – a classic of Finnish literature – as well as the character Venla, who was deeply admired by the brothers. The machine-washable linen textiles are made from certified long fibre flax yarn, grown in Central Europe using only natural rainwater. The weaving takes place at Lapuan Kankurit’s own mill in Western Finland – Lapuan Kankurit meaning “the weavers of Lapua” in Finnish.

- Care instructions Wash separately at 60 °C (40 °C is sufficient) with a small amount of neutral detergent. Avoid softener and bleach. Slow spin, no tumble dry. Reshape while damp and iron on linen setting. Linen may shed fibres so check lint filter. Natural linen lightens with washing.

Elina Helenius (b. 1963) is a Finnish textile designer with a focus on surface, colour and pattern design. She graduated from the University of Art and Design Helsinki, Department of Textiles, in 1988. Helenius has worked widely in product design and product development, bringing Finnish design expertise to both domestic and international clients. Her collaborations include brands such as Aarikka, Adea, Doctor Design, Marimekko, Showroom Finland, and Lapuan Kankurit. Helenius has received recognition in several design competitions, and her work is featured in the collections of the Helsinki Design Museum, the Kyoto Textile Resource Center, and the Röhsska Museum of Fashion, Design and Decorative Arts in Gothenburg, Sweden.
