Description

Grythyttan Stålmöbler's High Tech Chair, designed by Nils "Nisse" Strinning, is a minimalist, stackable steel chair suitable for both indoor spaces and outdoor use. The High Tech Chair features a steel wire seat and a slender bent steel tube structure that provides a comfortable, gently rocking seating experience. This distinctive steel base is a recurring feature in many of Grythyttan Stålmöbler's chairs.

Launched in 1984, the High Tech Chair is part of Nisse Strinning's furniture collection that draws inspiration from the traditions of futuristic and industrial design. The hardwearing steel structure has made the High Tech collection especially popular in outdoor use, but the pieces have later gained popularity in indoor spaces as well. The products are made at Grythyttan Stålmöbler's factory in Sweden.

Nils Strinning

Swedish architect Nils Strinning (1917–2006) was one of the designers who laid the foundation for what is now widely recognised as Scandinavian style. He rose to international fame in the 1940s with his design of the iconic String shelving system.

String was launched in 1949 as part of a design competition organised by the Swedish publishing house Bonnier, and it quickly became a classic of modern, functional design. Strinning’s work has received numerous accolades, including a gold medal at the Milan Triennale, and the String shelving system remains one of Sweden’s most iconic design exports.
